Spelling

Spelling is taught daily as part of our English lessons. Direct links are made between spelling and progression in writing. In Key Stage 1 and 2, each class has a weekly spelling rule. They are taught to apply this rule and will be given a list of words to practise at home every Friday to reinforce this learning. They will also be given some of the common exception words as part of their weekly spelling list. Spelling lists are differentiated to ensure they meet the needs of all abilities.

From Year 1 onwards, all pupils have their own Spelling Shed account. Teachers set assignments linked to the weekly spelling rule for children to practise at home. By accessing Spelling Shed, children can practise their spellings for the week in a fun and engaging way.
